Nevada High Schools 

The Jump Start program is a dual-enrollment opportunity for students attending Nevada high schools. Students enroll in college courses through Western Nevada College while simultaneously earning high school credits. High school students can earn college credit, up to a transferable Associate of Arts college degree, and their high school diploma at the same time.

NSHE Chancellors Office  

The chancellor is appointed by the Board of Regents to serve as chief executive officer for the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). They supervise the eight NSHE presidents and ensures the Board of Regents polices are implemented throughout the system. As chancellor, they are the System liaison with the governor, state legislators, and other public officials and community leaders.

Travel 

Travel policies cover both in-state and out-of-state travel, including per diem, vehicle use, and cancelled trips. For more information about travel, please contact your division assistant. 

 

Vehicle Use 

All Western Nevada College personnel (employees, work study students, and volunteers) who are required to use a college or state vehicle when conducting college business must have a valid driver's license and follow all the provisions of this policy. Vehicles may be available for use for travel to other campus locations.

WNC's Course Materials page is where students can look up required textbooks and materials for each of their classes by semester. As a faculty member, it's important to know that your required course materials need to be submitted so they appear here, giving students the ability to find and purchase their materials before the semester begins.

Student Grade Appeal Policy

Nevada Promise Faculty Mentorship  

The Nevada Promise Program requires students to complete a number of requirements prior to becoming eligible for the scholarship. One of these requirements is that they meet with a mentor who is willing to help guide them through the transition from high school to college, and beyond! Students who have a mentor are more likely to attend college, have higher retention rates, better grades, and clearer professional goals than their peers. Mentoring has also been shown to positively impact the community as a whole!

Observatory  

The Jack C. Davis Observatory is open to the public and provides a research-level facility for WNC students and the community. The observatory is located on the northern end of the Carson City Campus. Weather permitting, regular viewing parties are held throughout the warmer months. Reach for the Stars is a gala event hosted by the WNC Foundation. This signature WNC marquee event brings together community leaders, alumni, and supporters for fine dining, live and silent auctions, captivating entertainment, and an unforgettable night of elegance and impact. Every detail of the evening is designed to celebrate achievement while raising critical support for academics. 

 

Theatre Productions  

Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company is one of the largest musical theater companies in the state of Nevada and presents two productions a year, one in May and one in November. All productions are held at the Carson City Community Center.

Wildcat Connection Podcast  

At Western Nevada College, the Center for Teaching Excellence utilizes the ASWN Wildcat Studio, located in the Joe Dini Building in the ASWN offices, to interview and conduct a podcast with instructors and community members on the appreciation that can be shown for their hard work and teaching strategies.

Proctor Testing is available at the Carson City location for those in need of exam supervision for other colleges, universities and outside entities that are non-WNC schools/students. This is a year-round service that is offered for non-WNC assessments. An appointment is required. NO WALK-INS.
