| Statement: | Western Nevada College adopts the Nevada System of Higher Education's General Policy of the Board of Regents on Equal Employment Opportunity which may be found in Title 4, Chapter 8, Section 4 of the Board of Regents Handbook, and is guided by the principles that there shall be no difference in the treatment of a person based on a protected class and that equal opportunity and access to facilities shall be available to all. These principles are applicable to every member of the Western Nevada College community. This policy applies to, and must be an integral part of, every aspect of policy and practice in the employment, development, advancement, and treatment of all employees and applicants for employment. Section 1: Policy Compliance
- Western Nevada College declares and reaffirms a policy of equal employment opportunity,
equal educational opportunity, and nondiscrimination in the provision of educational
and other public services.
- Equal Employment Opportunity: The college will make all decisions regarding recruitment, hiring, promotions and all other terms and conditions of employment without discrimination on the basis of a protected class, or other factors which cannot be a lawful basis for employment decisions.
- Compliance with Laws: Western Nevada College undertakes to comply fully with all applicable federal, state, and local laws relating to equal educational opportunity, and equal employment opportunity.
Section 2: Responsibility for Implementation
As outlined in the Board of Regents Handbook, Title 4, Chapter 8, Section 5 - Responsibility for Compliance
- Ultimate responsibility for ensuring that each administrative unit complies with the terms of the Equal Opportunity and non-discrimination policies set forth by the Nevada System of Higher Education, as well as all applicable federal and state statues, laws, orders, and regulations, rests with the president of Western Nevada College.
- Executive and other administrative officers have direct responsibility for the compliance of the administrative units under their jurisdiction with the NSHE Equal Opportunity and non-discrimination policies and with applicable federal and state statutes, laws, orders, and regulations.
- Each department which admits students has the specific responsibility for ensuring that equal opportunity in education is provided to all.
Additional individuals with responsibility for compliance:
- Every member of the Western Nevada College community has the responsibility to become familiar with this policy and its principles.
- Western Nevada College employees who serve on committees, especially peer review, search, and other personnel committees, shall inform themselves about this policy and its principles and apply the principles in all deliberations and decisions in which they are involved.
- The role of Civil Rights Specialist will be maintained. The Civil Rights Specialist
shall have responsibility for:
- Participation in all required governmental reports concerning equal opportunity and non-discrimination.
- Collection and presentation of all statistical and other information on reports for the president, NSHE and Board of Regents.
- Technical and administrative assistance to personnel needing help to meet their responsibilities under the plan.
- Periodic review of documents relating to employment processes at Western Nevada College, e.g., job descriptions, employment applications, job announcements, and job advertisements to ensure that the impact of their use in not discriminatory against persons in protected classes.
