Computer Issues/Repairs 

If the problem stops an employee from doing their assigned duties call 775-445-4290 and leave a voicemail.  Voicemails automatically go to the IT Services team email accounts and your call will be returned promptly.  If the problem isn’t causing your work flow to stop then submit an IT Support ticket  for assistance.

 

 

New Computers 

The Department Assistant or Supervisor can submit a work order to request a quote.  All equipment is standardized for purchasing.  Exceptions can be requested, however, Computing Services has the final approval for all computers/laptops purchases.

Quotes

Tickets for quotes can be submitted to Computing Services. Each quote is valid for 30 days and purchases must be approved by Computing Services.

Can a credit card be used for a purchase?

If hardware purchase is under $100 (mouse, keyboard, webcam) then a credit card can be used. All purchases over $100 and all printer purchases require a purchase order.  Exceptions must be pre-approved by Computing Services prior to purchase.

How do I get a new printer?

The Request and Justification for Printer Purchase form must be completed and approved. The Department Assistant or Supervisor submits a Computing Services work order for a quote.  The completed approval form needs to be attached to the work order.

 Departments are responsible for budgeting and purchasing new Apple products for staff.

WNC is not licensed to install personal software not belonging to the college on employee machines.  College-owned software is not licensed for home use unless it is installed on a machine owned by WNC, typically a laptop.

Does WNC have discounted software offers for students and staff?

  • Employees that have a WNC email address are eligible for a Microsoft Office home use discount. Email IT.Personnel@wnc.edu for details
  • Students can contact the UNR Bookstore to check on software discounts.

Computing Service recommendations for equipment replacement:

  • Desktops: 3-5 years
  • Laptops: 2-3 years
  • Servers: 3-7 years
  • Peripherals (such as printers): 4-5 year
