Star Parties Offer Planet Viewing and Quantum Physics Lecture
Dec 11, 2025

Community members are invited to the twice-monthly Star Parties on Saturday nights at Jack C. Davis Observatory.
The final two Star Parties of the year at Jack C. Davis Observatory are scheduled for the next two Saturday nights, Dec. 13 and 20.
With sunny skies forecasted for Dec. 13, attendees will be able to view several planets and nebulae. The extended forecast isn’t as ideal for the Dec. 20 party, but JCDO Director Dr. Thomas Herring is also planning a lecture on quantum physics that evening.
The parties begin at 6:30 p.m. and last as late as 11:30 p.m. The observatory is located at 2269 Vanpatten Ave., on the northern end of the Carson City campus.
The community is welcome to attend at no cost. Learn about the universe and utilize a variety of telescopes to view the phenomenal stars from the fabulous vantage point above WNC's campus. JCDO also is the place to be for astronomical happenings, planetary walks and informative classes that keep students, scientists and the community on the edge of the latest technological advances.
For those planning ahead, the first two Star Parties of 2026 are set for Jan. 10 and 17.
