Commencement Information

Western Nevada College is proud of the accomplishments of our graduates and will hold a ceremony to celebrate their achievements.  Commencement is the formal celebration of the degree you have earned.  All graduating students are encouraged to participate in one of the commencement ceremonies. Associate degrees, bachelor degrees and certificates of achievement are conferred for graduates from the spring semester and the summer and fall semesters preceding the spring semester ceremonies.  Qualified students will receive invitations in April.

 

Dates and Locations for 2026 Ceremonies

3C Event Complex, 227 Sheckler Rd
Fallon, NV

Doors for both ceremonies will open at 9 a.m.  Graduates should arrive dressed in cap and gown and proceed to the check-in tables to pick up your name card.  Guests can proceed to the designated seating areas.

Clear Bag Policy

Both WNC Commencements, Carson City and Fallon, will implement a clear bag policy.  For safety reasons, all bags are subject to search by University Police.  Please see our clear bag policy at the link below.

Carson City Parking Limited for 2026 Ceremony

There is extensive construction on E. William St. (Highway 50).  Plan to arrive early for the ceremony, and consider carpooling if possible.  Park only in designated parking areas.
 

Prohibited Items

Including, but not limited to:
  • Weapons (including those carried with a permit)
  • Coolers and containers
  • Large signs, banners, flags or balloons
  • Packages (e.g., gifts, boxes)
  • Large umbrellas
  • Tobacco and e-cigarettes
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Fireworks or Noisemakers
  • Drones
  • Dogs/Pets are not allowed, except for official ADA recommended service animals*.
    * Service animals are dogs trained to perform specific tasks related to a person's disability.  They must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered, and under control.  Per NRS 651.075, a person may be requested to remove a service animal if the animal:
    1) Is out of control and the person accompanying the animal fails to take effective action to control it; or
    2) Poses a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
    Emotional support, therapy, or comfort animals are not considered service animals under the ADA, and are prohibited from this event.

Caps and Gowns

The tassel, cap and gown package can be ordered at the link below and must be purchased by April 19th, in order to ensure on-time delivery for the ceremony, as they will not be available at the ceremonies for purchase.  Black cap and gown and gold tassel required.

Graduating with Honors for Commencement

For spring commencement, honors that are announced at the ceremony and printed in the commencement program are calculated based on total units and classes completed at WNC prior to the applicable spring semester, including winter session classes. Spring semester classes that start after winter session are not included for honors announcements at commencement. Final honors are calculated after the conclusion of spring semester and commencement and posted on graduates' transcripts.

Honors medals on neck ribbons will be provided to Honors eligible graduates as they check in at commencement.
