Veterans Resource Center Pays Tribute to 9-11 Victims with Ultra Competitive Stair Climb Challenge

Sep 12, 2023

President Dalpe sets the paceThe Veterans Resource Center at Western Nevada College remembered those who lost their lives in the 9-11 World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks 22 years ago, with the first annual Stair Climb Challenge on Monday that tested the endurance and stamina of entrants.

It appeared that WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe would take the title for a while, but two student veterans and an employee devoted to CrossFit stepped in and vociferously competed for the title. In the end, student veteran Leo Triglia took first place with 213 floors scaled in about 20 minutes, followed by Continuing Education Coordinator Lauren Slemenda and student veteran Trent Whitney.

Combined, all of the participants climbed 1,267 floors or 20,272 steps.

The event also looked back at the 9-11 tragedy with photos and the names of people who died that day.
