WNC Unveils ‘The Link’: A New Career and Community Resource Center for Students
May 14, 2025

"The Link," which had a soft opening during spring semester and officially opened on May 8, is a new community and career resource for students.
Western Nevada College is proud to announce the grand opening of The Link, a dedicated career and community resource center designed to help students build brighter futures. Located in the Aspen Building on the Carson City campus, The Link will serve as a dynamic hub for career exploration, professional development, and employer engagement.
The college celebrated the opening of The Link on May 8 with students, faculty, staff, and community partners in attendance. The creation of this vital resource was made possible through generous grant funding from the William N. Pennington Foundation, The Nell J. Redfield Foundation, and the NV Energy Foundation.
“We are deeply grateful to the William N. Pennington Foundation, The Nell J. Redfield Foundation, and the NV Energy Foundation for their generous investment in our campus and our students,” said WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe. “As the only college in the Nevada System of Higher Education without a dedicated career center until now, this marks a major milestone in our effort to enhance student success and workforce readiness.”
“The Redfield Foundation is pleased to partner to create The Link, the career and community center at Western Nevada College,” said Dr. Kenneth M. Coll, Executive Director of the Redfield Foundation. “This initiative fits our mission very well—that is, supporting education and especially helping those that need a leg up. We commend Western Nevada College for this student-centered program and for their commitment to quality education and workforce development, especially for underserved students in northern Nevada.”
“The NV Energy Foundation is proud to support WNC in providing effective educational pathways for students,” said Ryan Bellows, Vice President of Government and External Relations. “Career and workforce development is critical to building stronger, more resilient communities, and The Link will play a pivotal role in connecting students with the local business and industry.”
The Link provides comprehensive support for students as they prepare for their future careers, including:
- Access to tools such as SkillUp, YouScience, and Handshake to support career discovery and employer connections
- Résumé development, interview preparation, and one-on-one career coaching
- On-campus job fairs, internship opportunities, and mentoring programs
“The Link gives us a stronger platform to connect students with employers and create real-world pathways to local jobs,” said Amanda Stibick, Employer Relations Specialist at WNC. “It’s exciting to see students gaining confidence and skills that align with what our regional workforce needs.”
By centralizing these services, Western Nevada College is helping students gain the tools, confidence, and connections they need to thrive in today’s job market.
