Backup Plans for Feb. 1 Star Party If Weather Affects Viewing
Jan 30, 2025
Even with rain in the forecast for Saturday, the first star party of February will
go on as planned at Jack C. Davis Observatory. If weather prevents observation of
planets, JCDO Director Dr. Thomas Herring is planning telescope room tours and viewing
of astrophotos.
Dr. Herring said he'd like attendees to be able to observe planets throughout February
and some of March. "Hopefully, we'll have clear weather for the Feb. 22 and the March
1 star parties and can see at least Jupiter and Mars," he said.
Star parties are free to the community and run from 6 to 11 p.m. on two Saturdays
per month at the observatory, which is located at 2269 Vanpatten Ave. on the northern
end of the Carson City campus.
