Western Nevada College Veterans Resource Center (VRC) Coordinator John Jacobson was recently honored by the Carson City chapter of the U.S. Navy League after serving as a guest speaker at its annual meeting.

Jacobson’s presentation included, in part, what the VRC provides student veterans, dependents of veterans and military personnel.

“The award presented to me that night is simply why I do the job that I do here at WNC,” Jacobson said. “I truly am passionate about assisting our community's veterans, their family members and our military personnel in the Northern Nevada region with obtaining their personal and educational goals.

“Doing this for our service members and their families is very fulfilling and rewarding for me and why I chose my position at WNC. At the end of the day, I want to ensure that no service member or veteran, including their family, is left behind and has the information they need to ensure they are taken care of because that is the least that we can do for the individuals who signed a blank check for our country.”

Jacobson’s 30-minute presentation also included information about how and when the VRC opened and what future holds for the facility and program.

“I gave them a background of the VRC and what resources we provide to the students both internally to WNC and externally to our institution,” he said.

Jacobson also pointed out the importance oft the Wildcat Veterans Club for student veterans.

“At WNC we take care of our service members, their families, and military personnel while they are obtaining their educational and personal goals,” Jacobson said.
