The Carson City Chamber Leadership Institute presented an '80s Dance Party on April 8 to benefit the Veterans Resource Center.

The Carson City Chamber Leadership Institute chose to contribute to the renovation project of WNC’s Veterans Resource Center as its 2023 class project and set out collecting donations and organizing a fundraising event.

It’s fundraiser, an ’80s Dance Party in the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City, provided attendees with the opportunity to relive a cherished part of the ‘80s with big hair, spandex, MTV, boomboxes, and more.

“I want to thankeveryone who supported the Carson City Leadership Class's 80s Dance Party fundraiser for the Veterans Resource Center. A special thanks to WNC President Dr. Kyle Dalpe and VRC Coordinator John Jacobson for coming out in their ‘80s attire and joining in the fun!” said Cherrice Dotson, a WNC employee, veteran and Carson City Leadership 2023 member.

Best costume honors were awarded to Michelle Williams, director of the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada, and Ayla Dotson, Dotson’s granddaughter. Taking the distinction of best dancers were Lt. Col. Chuck Swanson and Dr./Col. Carol Swanson.

The Veterans Resource Center’s grand opening and ribbon cutting is at 4:30 p.m. June 14. The big event will include a second raffle prize drawing.
