WNC’s Child Development Center Retains Distinguished 5-Star Assessment
Jan 26, 2026
Last summer, the Child Development Center at WNC received its eighth straight award as the top Child/Day Care Provider in the Nevada Appeal's Best of Carson City contest. Pictured with the award banners is CDC Director Anna Lisa Acosta-Rogers.
After receiving the first 5-star rating in the history of the Child Development Center (CDC) at Western Nevada College in 2024, the CDC has retained that honor for another two years.
For the second time in its 33-year history, the center has received this distinction from the Nevada Silver State Stars Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). Child care centers in Nevada are invited to participate in the QRIS’s voluntary program. The QRIS is a structural approach to improve and assess child care centers. The QRIS helps parents with their decision-making as they determine the best child care center for them and their children.
The CDC has participated in the QRIS since 2009.
As a 5-star child care center, the CDC has demonstrated and documented quality indicators above licensing regulation requirements.
CDC Director Anna Lisa Acosta-Rogers said that emphasizing the importance of early childhood education and providing outstanding care for more than 100 of the community’s children every day are instrumental in the center’s success.
‘The staff and teachers of the Child Development Center made this 5-star rating possible,” Acosta-Rogers said. “I am so proud of the effort in maintaining this high standard. We are honored to continue to provide quality care and support to the children and families in the area.”
The CDC focuses on the creative, emotional, intellectual, physical and social growth of each distinct child.
“The Child Development Center is a place where families come to find support, individualized care and tools for success,” Acosta-Rogers said.
The CDC opened in 1993 and has been recognized for eight years in succession as the Best Child/Day Care Provider in the Nevada Appeal’s Best of Carson City contest through voting from community members.
