Transferring from WNC

Completing a transferable associate's degree from WNC before transferring to a college or university is a great way to save money while working toward your bachelor's degree.  For students who plan to continue their education at a four-year college or university, a variety of available services make transferring from WNC to a four-year university as easy and efficient as possible. College catalogs from most U.S. colleges are available.

Our Associate of Arts, Associate of Business and Associate of Science are considered transferable and are designed to cover the first half of a bachelor's degree.  We highly recommend meeting with an Academic Advisor each semester to discuss your long term goals and to stay on track for graduation.

 

Steps to Transfer:

  1. Meet with an Advisor
    Meet with your advisor on a regular basis to ensure you are selecting the appropriate courses for your transfer program.

  2. Apply for Graduation
    Discuss with your advisor which WNC associate degree will best meet your needs and allow you to fulfill your program requirements at your desired college or university.  Submit a WNC application for graduation and pay your fees by the deadline.

  3. Send an Official Copy of your Transcript
    Request a copy of your transcript from WNC Admissions and Records be sent to the transfer institution.  You will need to submit a WNC transcript when you first apply to the transfer institution, and then again after you complete your last WNC course and final grades and degree have been posted.

  4. Apply for Admission at the College or University of your Choice
    Apply for admission and pay all fees to the intended transfer school by their deadline.  Be aware of imortant dates and residency requirements.  Start early!  Many colleges and universities set priority application deadlines as early as Oct. 1 for admission for the following fall semester.

UNR Transfer Admissions Program (TAP)

The Transfer Admissions Program (TAP) is offered at Western Nevada College. The program allows students to stay connected with the University of Nevada, Reno by receiving monthly reminders on application deadlines, financial aid, transfer events and more. The University of Nevada, Reno visits WNC at least once a month to go over the application process and academic advising. 

TAP features and benefits

    • Stay connected with University of Nevada, Reno faculty and advisors
    • Be reminded of deadlines, such as the February 1st scholarship deadline
    • Be able to receive academic advising while attending WNC
    • Stay connected to the University while still enrolled at WNC
