Students and staff participated on Nov. 8 in a free women's self-defense class presented by Western Nevada College and University Police Services (UPS).

Madison Eifert, community relations specialist for UPS, led the course and was assisted by UPS Police Officer Ilyass Zerhouni.

During the two one-hour training sessions, attendees learned awareness, verbal confrontation, safety strategies and physical techniques that enable someone to escape, resist and survive violent attacks successfully.

Eifert said that more of these classes are planned in the future.
