Western Nevada College Mathematics Professor Jeffrey Downs, who doubles as a regent for the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), has been selected as vice chair for the elected executive agency for the state government.

Downs and Chair Amy J. Carvalho will serve in these roles through June 30.

“I am honored to have been chosen by my fellow regents to serve as vice chair,” Downs said. “I am excited to work with Chair Carvalho for change to improve the experience our students have in the Nevada System of Higher Education.”

Downs’ employment with NSHE began in 2001, starting as a visiting mathematics lecturer at the University of Nevada, Reno, then becoming a tenured math professor at WNC. At WNC, Downs has also served as an interim vice president and faculty senate chair.

He began his Ph.D. in Education in 2020 from Liberty University.
