Foundation Welcomes Brook Sweeting to Board of Trustees

Jun 23, 2023

New Western Nevada College Foundation Board Trustee Brook Sweeting has already helped make a difference with the college fundraising arm’s main focus: students.

“My grandfather was a U.S. Air Force Veteran; and while sitting in my first board meeting for WNC Foundation in the VRC, the space felt like it needed an upgrade,” she said. “Hearing from President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe and VRC Coordinator John Jacobson about how the space was losing its utilization made me realize the importance it has on student veterans and those serving. I brought the idea up to my classmates as an idea and everyone was on board to have this be our leadership 2023 class project.”

Because of a generous donation from NV Energy and the fundraising by the Leadership Institute Class of 2023, the VRC has been remodeled, making the space more comfortable and resourceful for WNC’s Veteran students.

By day, Sweeting is a senior relationship manager at United Federal Credit Union, where she supports business and community development for the financial institution. Outside of work, supporting WNC and its students is also very important to her.

“I am thankful to be part of the WNC Foundation Board of Trustees and look forward to making a positive impact for this great school, our students and our community,” she said. “I wanted to become a part of the WNC Foundation because I have a genuine passion for education and WNC, was born and raised in a college town and attended a community college. Being a college town adds so much depth to our great capital city, and I look forward to creating awareness and student attendance of WNC.”

WNC Foundation Executive Director Niki Gladys is excited to have new trustees like Sweeting.

“All of our board members come from a variety of backgrounds and occupations, but they all have one thing in common: They want to make it better for our students, community members and community partners,” Gladys said. “We develop resources in support of Western Nevada College by creating community partnerships, encouraging philanthropy and strengthening relationships between the college and the communities that it serves.

“Brook brings a lot of energy and professionalism to the board and I’m very confident that she will help us continue to achieve our mission.”
