WNC Carson High School Mourn Loss of John March

Aug 24, 2022

John March dedicated a large part of his life to Western Nevada College and coaching youths.
Unfortunately, Johns life came to an end earlier this month at the age of 50.
John worked at Western from 1996 through 2016. Most of his 20-year employment at WNC was spent as a mail service technician.
I worked with John for many years at WNC, Welding Technology Instructor Randy Naylor said. In addition, we played sports together and had a relationship outside of work. He was a friend and a great person!
Darla Dodge, who spent nearly two decades managing budgets and finances at WNC, remembers how devoted John was to WNC.
John March was an incredibly giving individual who was dedicated to the success of WNC, Dodge said. He was the type of colleague that you knew if you called and asked for help, he would be right over and ready to do whatever you needed. He always volunteered for foundation and college events, assisting with setup and breakdown.
He was dedicated to his family and to the Carson City community. He was also a great friend who will be greatly missed.
Throughout his youth, John was a standout athlete, starring for the South Tahoe High School baseball and football teams. In adulthood, he dedicated himself to making Carson City children better athletes, coaching Little League baseball and youth football teams.
While working at WNC, John approached Naylor and the Welding Technology department about fixing a Little League pitching machine. After all, it was Johns philosophy that kids come first and a new pitching machine wasnt an option.
We were happy and able to help, Naylor said.
More recently, John was the freshman football coach at Carson High School.
We will miss him greatly. Our hearts are heavy and go out to his family, Carson High School Athletic Director Blair Roman told the Nevada Appeal. Speaking as a friend of his, you could not find a more friendly, honest guy, and those impacted by him are much the better for it.
Family, friends, WNC representatives, community members, and Carson High School students, coaches and administrators attended a candle-lit vigil in honor of John on Aug. 11 on the CHS football field.
To help Johns family cover the cost of funeral expenses, a GoFundMe page has been arranged at https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-for-the-family-of-john-march?qid=c57461b6c24e37c2c66cb2b3ffe9bb93
