Scharmann OToole Top Best of Fallon 2020 List
Jan 13, 2021
A Western Nevada College professor, a former dean and a previous instructor were recognized by the Lahontan Valley News in the Best of Fallon 2020.
Readers of the LVN voted former WNC Dean Bus Scharmann, Fallon Campus and Rural Outreach Director Holly OToole and former English Instructor Monica Fairbanks first through third, respectively, in the Best College Professor category.
Scharmann doesnt teach at WNC but is highly visible, representative and dedicated to the college.
I am honored and I thank all those who voted for me as the Best College Professor in Fallon. Scharmann said. I believe that those who voted for me know that I retired for the college in 2011, and that I really havent actually taught a class since 1992. I believe I received this honor because I served as dean of the Fallon campus for 15 years and worked to keep this campus open after my retirement. One of my special interests had been the Rural Nursing Program and Im proud to say that that program continues today. Again, thank for this honor. I deeply appreciate it.
Runner-up OToole said that Scharmann is a great advocate for WNC and has remained a part of the colleges Institutional Advisory Council.
For nearly a decade and a half OToole has taught science classes on the Fallon campus. In addition to her current roles, she still teaches three biology classes at the college.
It is an honor to be recognized by the Fallon community for my service to Churchill County and Western Nevada College, OToole said. I believe WNC provides valuable opportunities for our students and I am proud to be part of an organization that is responsible for positive change in our students lives.
Other WNC instructors and professors considered by the Lahontan Valley community for the award announced on Dec. 16 were English Professor Jessica Rowe, Mathematics Professor Eric York, Chemistry Professor Dr. Gary Evett, English Instructor Kathryn Whitaker, English Instructor Laurel Topken, Foreign Languages Professor Maxine Cirac, Psychology Instructor Teresa Gehman and Accounting Instructor Richard Kloes.
