NSHE Responds to Federal Judges DACA Ruling
NSHE Responds to Federal Judges DACA Ruling
Jul 14, 2021
Following the ruling last week by a federal judge in Texas that the Deferred Action
for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is unlawful, the Nevada System of Higher Education
has issued the following statement:
NSHE and its institutions reaffirm our strong commitment to our DACA and undocumented
students systemwide. In keeping with the academic missions of our campuses, we will
continue to support an equitable and inclusive campus environment at all eight NSHE
institutions for our more than 107,600 students. We anticipate this decision will
be appealed, and the ruling has no immediate effect on the current DACA community.
The decision has blocked only the federal governments approval of new DACA applications.
Current DACA status remains protected and renewals will continue to be processed.
We are watching the process very carefully and stand ready to advocate on behalf of
our students to establish clarity and certainty.
Concerned students with questions based on this ruling should reach out to their campus
resources, which can be found at https://nshe.nevada.edu/leadership-policy/administration/academic-student-affairs/students/dacaundocumentedstudents/
