Near-Total Eclipse Captured at JCDO

Nov 19, 2021

Clouds, rain and a late night and early morning didnt prevent Jack C. Davis Observatory Director Dr. Thomas Herring from photographing the longest lunar eclipse of the century on Nov. 19.

The longest duration is due to the Moons orbital speed and that the eclipse was nearly a total eclipse, he said.

The near-total eclipse occurred as the Earth positioned itself between the Moon and Sun, causing the Moon to pass through the Earths shadow.

In Dr. Herrings photo, he captured the moment of maximum eclipse.
