JCDO to Host NASA Webb Space Telescope Event

Jun 18, 2021

When the largest and most powerful space telescope ever is launched into space this fall, Western Nevada Colleges Jack C. Davis Observatory will have a connection to this historic event.
The observatory has been selected as part of the Webb Space Telescope Community Events initiative.
This distinction means that JCDO will serve as an official host to raise awareness of this event and receive support from NASA to do so. Event details will be announced as they become available.
I would be excited about the Webb telescope without this event, but this will help make it special for our community, said WNC JCDO Director Dr. Thomas Herring. We will receive support, including educational and outreach materials directly from NASA.
The Webb Space Telescope is scheduled to launch in October. It is expected to provide substantially more information about the universe and is approximately 100 times more powerful than the Hubble Space Telescope.
