Veterans Resource coordinators Jonathon Jacobson of WNC and Felipe Gutiérrez De Alba of TMCC and UNR Director of Veterans Services Chai Cook attended the event with their scholarship recipient.
Altamirano joined the Army after working for several years following his graduation from Carson High School in 2013.
He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, with the 1st Battalion 5th Cavalry Regiment. He served a nine-month rotation to Camp Humphreys in South Korea and shortly after returning stateside, he returned to BLC and was promoted to sergeant. After reaching his term of service in 2019, Altamirano returned to Carson City and soon became a student here at WNC. He made the Dean’s List in Fall 2021.
"I plan on continuing my education and martial arts journey with my full effort. Special thanks to all the help and support from the community, my team and WNC as a whole,” he said.
