Nevada Promise Scholarship Oct. 31 Deadline Approaches
Oct 15, 2024
High school seniors who are concerned about funding their college education can count on the Nevada Promise Scholarship and the opportunity to receive this higher education funding through Western Nevada College.
The Nevada Legislature created this last-dollar scholarship funding in 2017 to cover tuition and other mandatory fees not met by federal or state aid. The scholarship provides financial aid for up to three years for students who apply and follow through with the requirements for receiving the scholarship.
Fortuitously, students can save more than $3,000 per year by applying for the scholarship.
“I would like to personally encourage high school seniors to apply for the Nevada Promise Scholarship today! Don't wait — even if you are not sure where you will attend college,” said WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe. “I remember working on this project when it was first developed — and am so happy that it has helped students pay for their education.”
Nevada high school students graduating in spring 2025 must apply for the Nevada Promise Scholarship no later than Oct. 31, 2024, to receive this advantageous pathway to higher education. Nevada Promise is open to Nevada high school students graduating between Aug. 1 and June 15 who begin classes at WNC in the fall immediately following graduation. Applicants must be classified as a Nevada resident for tuition purposes and must have earned a high school diploma from a private or public high school located in Nevada, or a public high school that is located in a county that borders the state and accepts pupils who are residents of this state. Students may also qualify if they earn their general equivalency diploma (GED or HSE) prior to the age of 20.
WNC is committed to helping applicants fulfill the requirements in 2025 to maintain eligibility. Other requirements to receive the scholarship are completing a training session by March 1, applying for FAFSA no later than April 1, fulfilling community service obligations by May 1 and meeting with your mentor no later than July 1.
Eligibility doesn’t include income or GPA requirements. The scholarship doesn’t cover textbooks, lab fees and housing.
