The Western Nevada College (WNC) Art on Campus Advisory Council was established to serve in an advisory capacity to provide guidance, recommendations, and feedback regarding the selection of artwork for the galleries and public spaces. The Council does not hold decision-making authority. 

Purpose 

The Art on Campus Council offers input to staff regarding scheduling, programming, and presentation of artwork campus wide. The Council supports WNC’s commitment to accessibility, equity, and inclusion by encouraging diverse artistic representation and broad community engagement with the arts. All recommendations made by the Council are non-binding and are subject to final review and approval by WNC staff and leadership.  

Working under the direction of the Art Gallery Coordinator, the Council performs the following advisory functions: 

• Provide input on opportunities for meaningful interaction between staff, students, community artists, and audiences 

• Suggest ways to create opportunities for students to showcase their work and engage with the community 

• Advise on opportunities to exhibit a wide range of artistic concepts, styles, media, and diverse perspectives 

• Recommend ways to enhance the use of art as a teaching and learning resource for students, faculty, and the broader community 

• Review submissions and provide recommendations regarding artwork, artists, and potential installation sites for consideration by Campus Facilities staff and WNC leadership 

• Develop meaningful interactions between staff, students, community artists and community audiences 

• Provide students opportunities to showcase their work and engage with the community 

• Explore opportunities on our campus to exhibit artworks with a range of concepts, styles and media, and a diversity of artists (including gender, race, perspectives) whose work informs, inspires and challenges our students, the college and the community to see the world anew 

• Present opportunities to share as a teaching and learning resource for students, faculty members and the community, and as an important arts resource in the Northern Nevada  

• With community input, solicit, select and recommend art, artists and sites for future art to Campus Facilities staff 

Membership 

Membership consists of a mix of internal and external stakeholders, including representatives from the campus, local community, and industry.  

Members are appointed by staff for a one-year term and may serve up to three consecutive terms. After three terms, members must take a two- term hiatus before being eligible to serve again.  

Composition: 

• Committee Chair: Art Gallery Coordinator administrative role, non-voting unless in a tie). 

• 1 Non-Artist Representative (must reside within 50 miles of Carson Campus) 

• 1 Professional Artists Representatives  

• 2 Student Representatives (at least one must be an Associate of Arts major)  

• 2 Faculty Representatives 

Authority Clarification 

The Art on Campus Advisory Council does not make final decisions regarding artwork selection, acquisitions, or installations. All such decisions rest with designated WNC staff and leadership. The Council’s role is to inform, guide, and support these decisions through recommendations.
