Statement: The following website policies apply to using the WNC website.

Section 1: Equal Opportunity


  1. WNC is committed to equal opportunity and values diversity in its student population and workforce. The college does not discriminate in the employment of professional, classified and student employees and has procedures to resolve complaints of alleged discrimination.

Section 2: Anti-Discrimination Statement

Section 3: Clery Act


  1. The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act is a federal law that requires colleges to disclose certain timely and annual information about campus crime and security policies.

Section 4: Sexual Harassment Policy


Western Nevada College adopts the policy found in the Board of Regents Handbook, Title 4, Chapter 8, Section 14 as its policy prohibiting unlawful discrimination and harassment by employees, students or third parties

Section 5: Student Right To Know Act


  1. The Student Right to Know and Campus Security Act requires that WNC comply with the provisions and updates in disclosing the graduation rate of certificate or degree-seeking students. This information is available to current and prospective students prior to enrolling or entering into any financial obligation.

  1. Western Nevada College (WNC) believes that the unlawful possession or abuse of drugs and alcohol by students and employees presents multilevel risks to the individual, the learning environment, and the college as a whole.

Section 7: Notice of Copyright Laws and Infringement Penalties


  1. Summary of Civil and Criminal Penalties: Using WNC equipment,networks or official social media accounts to download copyrighted materials without authorization may result in penalties.
  2. Definition and Consequences of Copyright Infringement: Copyright infringement is the act of exercising, without permission or legal authority, one or more of the exclusive rights granted to the copyright owner under section 106 of the Copyright Act (Title 17 of the United States Code). These rights include the right to reproduce or distribute a copyrighted works without proper authorization.       In the file-sharing and social media context, downloading, uploading, sharing or reposting substantial parts of a copyrighted work without authority constitutes an infringement. Penalties for copyright infringement include civil and criminal penalties.
  3. Civil Penalties: Individuals found liable for civil copyright infringement may be ordered to pay either actual damages or statutory damages affixed at not less than $750 and not more than $30,000 per work infringed. For willful infringement, a court may award up to $150,000 per work infringed. A court can, in its discretion, also assess costs and attorneys fees.   4. Criminal Penalties: Willful copyright infringement can result in imprisonment of up to five years and fines of up to $250,000 per offense.
  5.
