Section 1: Procedure

  1. When an individual asks for information about or notification of a WNC student, the employee should inform the individual that the college may not release any personal information regarding the students class schedule or whereabouts. College policy and federal law prohibit releasing most other information as well.
  2. Ask the individual if this is an emergency. If so, have the individual wait and contact Public Safety. Security personnel will determine if it is truly an emergency and handle the situation.
  3. If the individual says it is not an emergency, but is unwilling to accept that we may not provide information, it then becomes a security issue and the employee should notify Public Safety.
  4. The same process applies for telephone calls.
  5. If, at any time an employee feels threatened or uncomfortable with an individuals behavior, contact Public Safety.
  6. Public Safety personnel screen each request by asking relevant questions. Therefore, anyone making such a request is expected to provide some or all of the following information:
    1. students Social Security number
    2. full name
