Bridges of Support: Faculty & Staff Engagement with Veterans

Oct 2, 2024

The Bridges of Support: Faculty and Staff Engagement with Veterans conference is scheduled for October 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. This day is dedicated to enhancing understanding and support for veterans.

Felipe Gutierrez, Program Director of Veteran Services at TMCC, will lead the Vet Smart Training sessions. These sessions aim to educate attendees on the challenges veterans face when transitioning back to civilian life, with a focus on PTSD and TBI. The goal is to help participants feel more comfortable working with veterans and their families, while fostering empathy and a deeper understanding.

The event also includes a panel discussion on classroom best practices, featuring Susan Trist, Matt Anderson, and Lauren Slemenda. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet WNC’s veteran students and gain insights through their personal experiences.

Throughout the day, the Bristlecone spine exhibit will run from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., offering veteran-related community resources such as Veterans Affairs, Work for Warriors, and the Suicide Prevention Network. These resources will provide attendees with valuable connections to better assist veterans in their communities.
