Five Western Nevada College employees are celebrating Nevada System of Higher Education employment anniversaries in February that exceed 20 years.
This group of longtime NSHE and Western Nevada College servers includes Geography Professor Chris Ryan, celebrating his 29th anniversary; Mathematics Instructor Debbie Barnes, 27 years; Computing Technologies Professor Dave Riske, 26 years; Scholarship and Student Employment Coordinator Temple Campana, 25 years; and Executive Assistant Kelly Kiesow, 21 years.

Campana has served as the scholarship and student employment coordinator at WNC for the past 10 years.
These past 10 years at WNC have flown by and I really enjoy working for this college on the Financial Assistance team, Campana said. This college feels like home for me and being here has been absolutely rewarding.
Prior to that, Campana served in three different roles at the University of Nevada, Reno: admissions, financial aid and counselor for the TRiO Scholars Program.
Barnes has been teaching for 48 years, including the past 27 years leading mathematics classes at WNC. Her versatility in teaching math stems from instructing students in middle school up through college calculus. This spring she is teaching Math for Elementary School Teachers.
The ah-hah moment where the student gets it and when I first get them gaining confidence in their work, said Barnes explaining what makes teaching so enjoyable to her. Its very rewarding to me to make a difference in their careers.
Barnes knew she wanted to be a teacher since the eighth grade, when she found herself being critical of some of her teachers and saying to herself, This is how I would have done it.
Math was always my favorite subject. I combined my love of math and teaching and thats how I became a teacher.
An additional 20 employees are celebrating anniversaries in February as well.
