That’s Entertainment Creates ‘One’ for Audiences
One was recorded individually in the performers homes.
Western Nevada Colleges Performing Arts Department and Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company are continuing their cutting-edge performances this fall by releasing Thats Entertainments first virtual production, One, from A Chorus Line.
The song-and-dance virtual show choir performance follows the release of several virtual choir productions by Broadway Rising! And they are all because of COVID restrictions preventing live performances.
Others in the country have filmed outdoor performances, but I dont know of another group that has assembled multiple green screen performancesinto a unified stage production, said WNC Professor of Music Stephanie Arrigotti, who is a longtime producer and director for WNMTCs Broadway productions.
Thats Entertainment began its first project in August following strict COVID guidelines.
Students were taught the choreographyeither remotelyorsocially distanced wearing masks, Arrigotti said. Then, as advised, the choreographer wore a mask and face shield to video each unmasked dancer in front of a green screen for the final half of the number.
All singing was recorded individually at home and sent through a drop box to the music technicianto be mixed.The first section of the choreography was also individually recorded at everyones homes. Then, the video editor brought all the videos together to simulate a stage performance.
After seeing how many hours this took to create, we opted for shooting our next release outside!That should be coming soon, Arrigotti said.
The cast includes Anuhea Azevedo, Sophia Cacioppo, Melanie Gill, Alex Gumm, Alexis Haight, Malina Jeffrey, Amanda Marvel, Cameron Miller, Mitch Miller, Christina Van Geel, Hannah Walker and Rachel Wilkerson. The production crew is Music Director Judy Monson, Recording Engineer John Shipley, Choreographer Gina Kaskie, Graphic Artist/Video Editor Tara Burke and Arrigotti.

Work has already started on WNMTCs next Broadway show choir release, Seize the Day. It is from the musical Newsies and is a favorite of musical theatre dancers, according to Arrigotti.
