PHOTO GALLERY: Dia de los Muertos Celebration

Nov 18, 2021

The break between and after classes turned into a real treat for Western Nevada College students on Thursday.
Students enjoyed chocolate abuelita, sugar skulls and pan dulce.
The treats were part of the annual Dia de los Muertos Celebration in the Bristlecone Building on the Carson City campus.
Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead is a traditional Mexican celebration that honors deceased loved ones and heroes.
Students also got into the spirit of the occasion by having their faces painted.
One of the main attractions of the event is the elaborately decorated altars, which were created by students of the Latino Leadership Academy and the Associated Students of Western Nevada. They were judged by Counseling Services Director Piper McCarthy, Admissions and Records Director and Registrar Dianne Hilliard and Director of Financial Assistance JW Lazzari.
Congratulations to winner Lupe Santiago and her SI Session Team and runner-up Cristina Reyes and her SI Session Team.
Thank you, students, for sharing a special glimpse of your culture and providing a wonderful event to help celebrate the richness of a treasured Mexican tradition, said LLA Coordinator Denise Stout.
