As fall semester at WNC approaches, individuals may want to consider several classes that could lead to a professional career with a shorter educational commitment.
A Certified Nursing Assistant class is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 8:45 p.m. starting on Aug. 31 on the Fallon campus. The six-unit course prepares students to take the Nevada licensing exam for certification as a nursing assistant. CNAs provide nursing care for patients in long-term and acute care institutions.
In addition, there are two Emergency Medical Services classed that individuals can take in person on the Fallon campus: Emergency Medical Technician Training (EMS 108) is offered from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (EMS 115) from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. EMS 108 preparesindividuals to provide basic emergency medical care to individuals experiencing sudden illness or injury. Upon completion of the class, individuals are eligible to sit for the National Registry Examination for EMT Basic. EMS 115 prepares students to incorporate knowledge of basic and advanced emergency medical care for critically ill and emergent patients to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with acute out-of-hospital medical and traumatic emergencies. Enrollees in this class must be certified as an EMT in Nevada.
Students entering college for the first time or who have struggled in their first semester or two should consider taking Strategies for Academic Success (EPY 150). This class will help students learn how to learn. In-person classes are offered on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. and Fridays at 11:15 a.m.
There are flex and online options for this class.
Advisers are available Monday through Friday to help students prepare for fall semester. Students who have not attended WNC before can start by applying for admission at http://wnc.edu/welcome/. This link offers access to the class schedule, advising and other resources to prepare students for WNC.
