Kate Marshall visits Wildcat Reserve: Lieutenant Gov. Kate Marshall talks to WNC Student Life Coordinator Heather Rikalo about the colleges new food pantry in the Student Center.

One of Nevadas highest-ranked government officials visited the Western Nevada College campus on July 15, taking time to visit and listen to students and team members.
Nevada Lieutenant Governor Kate Marshall toured Westerns newly reimagined Joe Dini Library and the bustling Student Center, which allowed her to meet some of the colleges paramedic students and student employees.
She also spent time in the library with children from the Child Development Center who were learning the importance of caring for books and returning them to their rightful places on the shelf. The children shared their names and a few volunteered what they enjoyed most with Marshall, who once taught English and commerce in Kenya after graduating from the University of California, Berkeley.
Before Marshalls tour ended, Coordinator of Student Life Heather Rikalo showed her Wildcat Reserve, WNCs new food pantry that was created after a survey revealed that a number of students were experiencing food insecurity. Marshall expressed how impressed she was with the pantry and the difference it was making on campus.
WNCs leadership team of President Dr. Vincent Solis, Provost and Senior Vice President Dr. Kyle Dalpe, Foundation Executive Director Niki Gladys and ACCEL Director Angela Holt toured the campus spots with Marshall.
We are very pleased that the lieutenant governor made the time to not only visit our campus but was so friendly and warm to our students and team members, Dr. Solis said. It was special to be able to share some of the changes on our campus with the lieutenant governor and receive positive feedback from a former educator like her.
Marshall was elected Nevadas 35th lieutenant governor in 2018. She has also served as a two-time treasurer for the state.
