Western Nevada College students, faculty and staff were recognized for their excellence and hard work through the 2021-22 school year on April 28 in Carson Nugget Hall.
WNCs student government group, the Associated Students of Western Nevada (ASWN), presented its annual Awards & Appreciation Ceremony to honor the best of the best for their contributions in academics, instruction, leadership and service.
Student awards highlighted the evening with recognition garnered by those excelling in Professional and Applied Technology, Jump Start, Latino Leadership Academy, Liberal Arts, Nursing and Allied Health, ASWN, Veteran service, Leadership and Employment.
PAT award winners included Tyger Hunter, Kristina Dalton, Sophia Purvance and Bradford Kaai.
Recognized for their excellence in Jump Start were Ethne Myler, Samuel Lee, Sarah Farnham, Kaitlyn Hert, Colin Unruh and Allison Rank.
Standouts in Liberal Arts included Alisha Kingsley, Bruce Lincoln, Casamaro White and Daniel Ruebusch.
Honored for theirexceptional work in Nursing and Allied Health were Austin Woods, Jenna Bean, Siara Freyer and Trevor Ammons.
Other student awards went to Oscar Eusebio, Latino Leadership Academy Student of the Year; Cody Johnson-Miller, Veteran Student of the Year; Andrea Sanchez De Loza, ASWN President Award; Angelica Ramirez, Outstanding Student Leadership Award; and Lesly Student Employee of the Year Award.
Additionally, ASWN awards were presented for the Student Lifes top club and service to students and the college. The WNC Games Club, a first-year club focused on social and casual video gaming led by adviser Dr. Jennifer Verive, received the WNC Club of the Year Award. Office of Student Life, overseen by Heather Rikalo, earned the ASWN Service Award.
For their contributions to students, ASWN honored three individuals with awards:Denise Stout, Latino Leadership coordinator, was recognized as the Advisor of the Year, English Professor Angeline Vogl received the Faculty of the Year Award and Dr. Tom Kubistant earned the Adjunct Faculty of the Year Award.
Dr. Rebecca Bevans andKiHanaGarcia were also recognized for the Nevada System of Higher Education Regents Awards that they received earlier this spring.
